Pets are members of the family. With many millions of companion animals surrendered to animal shelters each year, and countless stray animals roaming our streets, giving up a companion animal is not a decision to be taken lightly. If circumstances arise that prohibit you from caring for your pet, there may be options for you to consider before relinquishing your pet. Shelters are stressful environments for companion animals. They often exhibit behaviors in a shelter they do not exhibit in a home, which makes it harder for them to be adopted. If you can rehome your animal directly, you’ll save your animal stress and have the peace of mind of knowing where your animal is placed.
Below is a list of resources to give your pet the best chance to find a new home or address and fix current issues. Please make every effort to re-home your pet first.
We schedule all animal surrender/intake appointments in advance. We do not guarantee placement in our adoption program. We do not accept forms from those who live outside of Cortland County. If you live in a surrounding county, please contact a facility within your jurisdiction, as we have very limited space and resources. Owner surrender fees may apply. If you are still interested in owner surrendering after reviewing the resources above, please fill out the form using the link below.
