Pets are members of the family. With many millions of companion animals surrendered to animal shelters each year, and countless stray animals roaming our streets, giving up a companion animal is not a decision to be taken lightly. If circumstances arise that prohibit you from caring for your pet, there may be options for you to consider before relinquishing your pet. Shelters are stressful environments for companion animals. They often exhibit behaviors in a shelter they do not exhibit in a home, which makes it harder for them to be adopted. If you can rehome your animal directly, youβll save your animal stress and have the peace of mind of knowing where your animal is placed.
Below is a list of resources to give your pet the best chance to find a new home or address and fix current issues. Please make every effort to re-home your pet first.
Please Note: We do not accept applications from those who reside outside of Cortland County. If your animal is not currently up to date with vaccines or spayed/neutered, you will be required to pay an owner surrender fee. Once the form is received, we will reach back out to you. Please do not show up with your animal at the shelter. Appointments are REQUIRED once the application is processed.
We reserve the right to decline an owner surrender form for any reason.
